Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata Inaugurated

On September 7, 2008, the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata was inaugurated by visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. The Governor of West Bengal, Mr. G. K. Gandhi, representatives of overseas Chinese and people from all walks of life attended the ceremony.

In his remarks, the Chinese Foreign Minister noted that China and India are good neighbors and are experiencing a very good period in bilateral relations. The opening of Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata will surely enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, as well as East India with China, putting new impetus in Sino-Indian relations.

The Governor of West Bengal, Mr. G. K. Gandhi said the people of West Bengal cherish profound feelings for the Chinese people. He expressed the hope that further friendly cooperation with China could be strengthened.
