On the morning of July 6, a good number of people gathered and colorful banners waved around the Nathula Pass at China-India border, when both sides of China and India were busy with the final preparation for the reopening of the trade route. The warm atmosphere overwhelmed the rainy and chilly weather.

H.E. Mr. Sun Yuxi, Ambassador of China to India, made a special trip from Delhi to attend the Reopening Ceremony. After arrival, Ambassador Sun was interviewed by Indian and international media. He pointed out that the reopening of Nathula trade route plays a significant role in promoting China-India relations and bilateral economic and trade cooperation. It will enhance mutual trust between China and India, strengthen economic, trade and personnel exchanges between Tibet Autonomous Region and Sikkim and push forward economic development in the area as well.

Around 9 am, H.E.Mr.Champa Phuntsok, Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region and H.E.Mr.Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim jointly cut the ribbon for the reopening of Nathula trade route. At the same time, firecrackers were let off amid crescendos of music. The trade pass remained quite for a long time and now has been rejuvenated.

After the reopening of Nathula trade route, Ambassador Sun paid a visit to Renqinggang trade market located in Tibet Autonomous Region and attended its opening ceremony.

July 7, the Ambassador held a talk with Mr. Champa Phuntsok, and Mr. Hao Peng, chairman and vice chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region, exchanging views on further development of Nathula trade markets.
