On August 12, 2019, Vice President Wang Qishan met with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India at Zhongnanhai.

Wang Qishan said, as important neighbours to each other, China and India are ancient civilizations in the East and major countries in the world, and both are at an important stage of national development and rejuvenation now. Under the guidance of the national leaders, the two countries have enjoyed in-depth development in their cooperation across the board and sound momentum of bilateral relations in recent years. The core of modernization is the modernization for people. People-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and India are wide-ranged and rich in content, which are beneficial not only to the present but also to the future and represent an important aspect of all-round exchanges between the two countries. Both sides should give full play to the China-India High Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges, and lay a more solid foundation of public opinion for the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said, India and China play a unique and important role in regional and international politics. The two sides have always respected and accommodated each other's major concerns. The Indian side is willing to make persistent efforts on the basis of the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and further strengthen communication, properly handle differences and enhance practical cooperation with China in all fields.
