Yang Jiechi Meets with Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean of Singapore

On April 11, 2019, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean of Singapore.

Yang Jiechi expressed that President Xi Jinping visited Singapore in 2015, and the two sides established the all-round cooperative partnership progressing with the times. Bilateral relations have entered a new stage. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore. Both sides should follow the direction set by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen high-level exchanges, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepen cooperation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and upgrade the quality and level of bilateral practical cooperation, in a bid to better benefit the two peoples. The Chinese side expects and believes that the Singaporean side will continue to play a constructive role in the relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Teo Chee Hean said that Singapore-China relations have enjoyed smooth development, and bilateral practical cooperation has been steadily advanced with remarkable results. The Singaporean side stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side under the framework of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to push Singapore-China relations and ASEAN-China relations for greater development.
