Wang Yi Meets with State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar

On July 24, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar in Vientiane, Laos.

Wang Yi conveyed greetings from Chinese leaders to Aung San Suu Kyi and expressed that China and Myanmar enjoy an age-old "Paukphaw" friendship with constant mutual understanding, mutual respect, mutual support and mutual help. Since its establishment, the new government of Myanmar has orderly carried out its 100-day plan and maintained the situation of sound development. It is believed that Myanmar will constantly score new achievements in national development and construction. During this process, China is willing to be Myanmar's most ideal and most reliable cooperative partner. China stands ready to, together with Myanmar, enhance high-level exchanges, push forward practical cooperation in all fields, support Myanmar's efforts in livelihood improvement and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to consolidate the public opinion foundation for China-Myanmar friendship and inject new impetus into China-Myanmar relations in the new period.

Aung San Suu Kyi asked Wang Yi to convey her greetings to Chinese leaders and stated that for Myanmar, China is the largest neighboring country that harbors goodwill towards Myanmar. The public opinion foundation of Myanmar-China relations is solid and profound as the two peoples are good neighbors and good friends. Myanmar appreciates China's support and help in Myanmar's economic development and national reconciliation and hopes that China, as Myanmar's good friend, will continue to support the country during this important period of Myanmar's development and construction. Myanmar hopes to join hands with China to continue forging a positive and strong relationship and believes that the traditional friendship and friendly cooperation between Myanmar and China will be passed down from generation to generation.
