Yang Jiechi Holds Telephone Conversation with EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ashton

On December 3, 2010, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at request held a telephone conversation on the Iranian nuclear issue with Catherine Ashton, the European Union (EU)'s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.

In the telephone conversation, Yang said the international community is very concerned about the upcoming talks in Geneva between Iran, the EU and the six nations. It is the hope of the Chinese side that all sides can adopt a constructive attitude in the talks and push for positive progress, which conforms to the interests of all parties, Yang said. China is willing to work with the EU and other concerned parties to make great efforts to that end, Yang said.

Ashton said that China is an important participant in the negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear issue, and that the EU wishes to work with China to make headway in the talks.
