Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun Attends the 2010 Boao Youth Forum (Hong Kong) and Delivers Keynote Speech

On November 26, 2010, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun attended the 2010 Boao Youth Forum co-hosted by Boao Forum for Asia and the YElites Group and delivered a keynote speech entitled Strengthening Cooperation and Promoting Common Development of Asia.

Zhang pointed out the global economy is slowly recovering from the international financial crisis. Asian developing economies took the lead in the recovery and have become the major driving force for the sustainable recovery and growth of world economy. Asian countries face unprecedented development opportunities in terms of development environment, conditions, momentum and trend. Meanwhile, as the global demand structure experiences clear changes and resources, energy and environmental constrains get tightened, Asian countries in general face the dual tasks of growing their economy and changing the economic growth mode. Non-traditional security issues are interwoven with traditional ones, posing serious challenges to development in the region.

He noted China, faced with the challenges and opportunities, expects to step up cooperation with all the other Asian countries in five aspects: first, maintain peace and stability and create a favorable environment for development; second, change the growth mode and promote Asia’s sustainable development; third, try to eradicate poverty and achieve balanced growth in Asia; fourth, encourage technological innovation and explore new growth driving forces in Asia; fifth, deepen regional cooperation and stick to open development of Asia.

His keynote speech received positive response from the audiences and achieved good results.
