On October 24, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in Hua Hin, Thailand. The two heads of government agreed to continue advancing China-India strategic cooperative partnership oriented towards peace and prosperity to achieve common development and harmonious development. Wen said China and India, as neighbors, are both populous big developing countries. Good-neighborly friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development not only benefit both peoples, but are of great positive significance to Asia and the world at large. China is glad to see India's development and its playing a due role in regional and international affairs. China is ready to maintain high-level exchange with India, build up mutual trust, expand cooperation and strengthen coordination and cooperation in addressing such major issues as the global financial crisis and climate change. The two sides also agreed to take earnest measures to maintain stable trade, oppose trade protectionism and work hard to reach the US$ 60 billion trade target by 2010. The Chinese government encourages its businesses to invest in India and welcomes Indian enterprises to explore market in China. Both China and India have splendid culture and they also share traditional friendship. Both sides should learn from each other and deepen mutual understanding, which is conducive to expanding the social basis of bilateral ties. Singh, in his turn, congratulated China on its enormous achievements and positive role in international affairs, emphasizing that India won't deem China a threat and hopes to develop strategic cooperative partnership that is harmonious, stable and strong with China. It is in the fundamental interest of both countries and is also conducive to the region and the world at large. India will commit to implement the ten strategies on bilateral cooperation and is ready to maintain high-level exchange with China, enhance defense dialogue and build up mutual understanding and trust. Economic and trade cooperation is an important pillar for bilateral relations and India is ready to further expand bilateral trade and investment scale and welcome Chinese companies to invest in India. Since the two countries share common interests and consensus in addressing the global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, they should enhance communication and coordination in this regard. Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-India diplomatic relations. He expressed hope that both sides will well hold the "Indian Festival" and "Chinese Festival" to improve the friendly feelings between both peoples. The two prime ministers also reached consensus in the following aspects on the border issues. Both sides should abide by the political guiding principles reached by both sides and tap the role of relevant mechanisms. Both sides should continue to gradually narrow differences and strive for continuous progress through candid dialogue, with the aim of reaching a solution that is fair, reasonable and acceptable to both sides. Both sides should try to ensure peace and stability in the border area, as it would be conducive to resolving the border issues and furthering bilateral cooperation in other areas and the overall bilateral relationship. Various circles of the two countries should create a positive, friendly atmosphere and make unremitting efforts to this end. |
