On the afternoon of October 15, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Igor Chudinov at the Great Hall of the People. Both sides pledged to make joint efforts to further deepen China-Kyrgyzstan good-neighborly friendship and cooperation. Wen said that recent years have witnessed healthy and stable development of bilateral ties, pointing to deepening political trust and smoothly growing pragmatic cooperation. Kyrgyzstan has become China's third largest trade partner among members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). China would like to work with Kyrgyzstan to promote substantive cooperation in all areas and seek closer coordination on international and regional issues so as to push bilateral ties to a new level. "Geographically close and economically complementary, both countries have advantages in deepening cooperation," Wen said. He proposed China-Kyrgyzstan economic and trade cooperation committee should actively conduct research on measures to expand border and port cooperation, tackle the global financial crisis and maintain steady growth of bilateral trade volume. Both sides should well implement key projects in transportation, telecommunications and other infrastructures. They should also work closely on agriculture, open a green channel for trade of agricultural products and build Chinese agricultural technology demonstration areas in Kyrgyzstan. Chudinov congratulated Wen on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He praised China's profound changes, enormous achievements in economic and social development and increasing global influence over the past six decades. Chudinov attributed China's development achievements to leadership's correct policies and people's hard work, wisdom and courage. He said China was Kyrgyzstan's most important political and economic partner. Developing friendly cooperation with China was high on the agenda of Kyrgyzstan's diplomacy, he said. The Kyrgyz government firmly supports China's position on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. Kyrgyzstan is ready to join hands with China to earnestly implement various cooperation agreements signed by both sides and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation on hydropower, transportation, telecommunications, agriculture, oil and gas, education and culture to push bilateral ties to a higher level. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. Following the talks, the two prime ministers attended a signing ceremony of a joint communiqué between the two governments as well as bilateral cooperation documents on economy, technology, roads and finance. Prior to the talks, Premier Wen held a welcome ceremony for Chudinov's visit at the Square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League Li Chong'an, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Ping, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Wang Kaiwen attended the welcome ceremony. |
