Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Kyrgyz Counterpart

On November 12, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his visiting Kyrgyz counterpart Ednan Karabayev.

Hailing the development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Yang said China is ready to further enhance political trust with Kyrgyzstan and expand pragmatic cooperation in many fields. He called on the two countries to increase coordination within multilateral organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations to promote common development and prosperity.

Karabayev said that Kyrgyzstan highly valued its relations with China. The country will continue to firmly support China on issues concerning Tibet and the fight against the "three evil forces" of terrorism, extremism and separatism. Karabayev said Kyrgyzstan will also work with China to promote bilateral cooperation in areas including politics, economy, trade, transportation, security and humanities.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

After the talks, the two foreign ministers signed a cooperation plan between the two Foreign Ministries for the year 2009.
