Recently, certain Indian media published an article by a member of the National Security Advisory Board of India, which spread the lies of the so-called "genocide", "forced labor" and "suppression of religious freedom" in Xinjiang, attempting to sow discord among ethnic groups in China and drive a wedge between China and Islamic countries, and openly interfering in China’s internal affairs. Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India issued a solemn statement expressing strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the erroneous remarks of the related media and author, and elaborating on China's principle and position.

I. In recent years, certain countries have been using Xinjiang-related matters to fabricate lies of the century that slander and discredit China's counter-terrorism and de-radicalization efforts in Xinjiang. The allegations such as so-called "genocide", "forced labor" and "suppression of religious freedom" in Xinjiang are unscrupulously slander attacks on China. They were ugly farces directed by a handful of colluding individuals in the political, media and academic fields in Western countries.

Over the past 60 years and more, Xinjiang's economy has grown by more than 200 times, and the average life expectancy has increased from 30 to 72 years. From 2010 to 2018, the population of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang increased by 25.04 percent, much higher than the 2 percent growth rate of the Han population over the same period. Over the past four decades and more, the Uyghur population in Xinjiang has more than doubled from 5.55 million to over 12 million. Is there such a so-called "genocide" in the world?

II. The door to Xinjiang is always open. Seeing is believing, and justice resides in people's hearts. In recent years, more than 1,200 foreign diplomats, international organization officials, journalists and religious personnel from over 100 countries visited Xinjiang, and they agreed that what they saw and experienced in the region was entirely different from Western media reports and politicians' accusations. A French author Mr.Maxime Vivas wrote a book entitled "Uyghurs: To Put an End to Fake News". Based on his two trips to the autonomous region, Mr.Vivas tells a real Xinjiang that enjoys prosperity and stability. We recommended the visionaries in India to read this book.

Some people chose to believe in the lies made up by a few, instead of listening to the voice of 25 million Xinjiang residents of various ethnic groups，and acknowledging the real progress in Xinjiang. Has the author of the article ever been to Xinjiang? We hope he could seek for a good understanding of the truth of his own, and not follow suit and act as sounding board for a few Western countries.

III. In essence, Xinjiang-related issues are about countering terrorism, radicalization and separatism. The so-called "East Turkistan" forces has long been engaging in activities endangering China’s national security in an attempt to separate Xinjiang from China. It’s astonished and unbelievable to find that this Indian media openly published a picture with the flag of the so-called "East Turkistan" forces and embolden terrorism and separatism.

A few years ago, Xinjiang witnessed thousands of violent terrorist cases, bringing sufferings to hundreds and thousands of innocent people. In this context, the Chinese government firmly cracked down on terrorism and took preventative counter-terrorism measures to achieve de-radicalization through education. For over four years in a row, Xinjiang has not seen a single violent terrorist case. The people's lives, property and national security interests have been ensured.

There is no so-called "re-education camps" in Xinjiang. The vocational education and training centers set up in Xinjiang in accordance with laws are schools. They are no different from "the Desistance and Disengagement Programme (DDP)" or "De-radicalization Centers" in other countries. They are all active steps to realize preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization goals so as to cut off terrorism and religious extremism at the source. They are in line with the principles and the spirit embodied in a number of international documents on counter-terrorism, such as the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.

The allegation that so-called "Chinese government demolished or damaged many mosques in Xinjiang" is nothing but slanderous rumors. In fact, the majority of the mosques in Xinjiang were built in 1980s to 1990s, or even earlier than that. Some of the mosques had become dangerous houses and might seriously threaten the Muslim attendees' personal safety. In recent years, China has properly solved the problem of dilapidated and dangerous houses of mosques through relocation, expansion and new construction. The construction of the mosques is safer. This shows from some perspective that the Chinese government protects citizens’ freedom of religious belief in accordance with the law, and the freedom of religious belief enjoyed by people of all ethnic groups is fully guaranteed.

IV. Xinjiang-related issues are purely China's internal affairs. We are firm in upholding our national sovereignty, security and development interests. China resolutely opposes and completely rejects a few Western countries using Xinjiang-related issues to attack and smear China and interfere in China’s internal affairs. These self-styled "judges" are always eager to lecture others, using human rights as a tool for wanton interference and political manipulation, while doing all they can to whitewash the deplorable human rights record at home. It is hoped that relevant media and people in India could think independently, have a sober understanding of a few Western countries’ behavior to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and contain developing countries under the pretext of human rights, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, take an objective view of Xinjiang’s economic and social development achievements, and stop spreading disinformation.
