Chinese Embassy Held Photo Exhibition on Combating SARS

On August 12, the Chinese Embassy and India Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts jointly held a grand photo exhibition titled Crisis: Test and Response that is on Chinese people's success in combating SARS.

Mr. R. Venkataraman, Former President of India, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Information & Broadcasting Minister, Dr. Singhvi, President of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Mr. Zheng Qingdian, Charge d'Affaires ad interim and about 200 persons from circles of politics, culture, health and press as well as foreign embassies in New Delhi were present at the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition. In his address, Mr. Zheng Qingdian briefed the guests on how the Chinese people combated SARS with bravery under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese government. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks for the Indian government and the Indian people's sympathy and support to the Chinese people. Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad congratulated the Chinese government and the Chinese people on their success in combating and controlling the epidemic disease. He expected that exchanges and cooperation would be strengthened between the two governments and peoples in jointly dealing with crises and challenges. Former Indian President Venkataraman, Dr. Singhvi and other guests expressed their admiration for Chinese government and people's success in controlling SARS and recovering the economy in a short period.

53 photos were on display in this exhibition. They showed the Chinese people's victory over SARS and valuable experiences in controlling epidemic disease under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese government that proceeded from their consistent spirit of highly concerning about the people's lives and being responsible for the international community. They also demonstrate the national spirit of unity and sacrifice of the Chinese people and medical workers in particular. In addition, they gave show to the support and assistance India and other friendly countries rendered to China's fight against SARS.
