China closes down 103 casinos

BEIJING, March. 25 -- National public security departments have handled 48,000 gambling cases so far, arresting 146,000 gambling related criminals and ferreting out gambling money and goods with a value of nearly 230 million RMB.

    In special actions, all levels of the PSB have uncovered more than 1,360 illegal gambling gangs involved in over 1,600 cases, with a membership of over 12,000 people. Public security departments cited 3,594 entertainment and gaming establishments and 2,254 internet bars and instructed them to reform. More than 35,000 gambling machines and 1,674 computers used for gambling were discovered.

    It is reported that 103 overseas casinos in counties surrounding Yunnan, Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Jilin and other provinces and autonomous regions had been shut down, and some converted back into entertainment businesses. 81 out of 82 overseas casinos in the frontier area of Yunnan Province were closed down, and 18 of 28 casinos in the frontier area of Heilongjiang Province were shuttered. Overseas casinos that have not closed now operate in difficult circumstances.
