Liu Peng meets with FIVB president

    BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Olympic Committe (COC) president Liu Peng met with Ruben Acosta, president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) here on Wednesday.

    Liu, also one of the three executive presidents of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), extended warm welcome to Acosta and made a brief introduction to him about Beijing's preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games.

    "We have great confidence that we can host the 2008 Olympic Games to be a distinctive and high-level Games," said Liu in the meeting.

    Acosta, who had been guiding the FIVB since first elected as president in 1984, asked Liu and BOCOG to do their best to make volleyball and beach volleyball a great success in the Beijing Games.

    "We need your help," Acosta said. "We need you to stand by volleyball and beach volleyball."

    In response, Liu said he would give his full support to the development of volleyball and beach volleyball in China.

    "I hope we can extend our good coopertaion and let's always be good friends," Liu added.

    Acosta was here for a six-day visit to the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games. He will also have a meeting with Wang Qishan,Mayor of Beijing and executive president of the BOCOG.
