Broadcast company launched for Beijing Olympics

     BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Corporation was officially launched Wednesday at the third meeting of the Co-ordination Commission for the 2008 Beijing Games, CCTV reported Thursday.

    The Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Corporation, that will reach some 4 billion people, was official launched during Wednesday's meeting. Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice-Chairman of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games organizing committee, was named chairman of the new company's board. And Hein Verbruggen, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee's Co-ordination Commission, was named its vice-chairman.

    VP of BOCOG & Chairman of the Board of BOB Jiang Xiaoyu said, "It was very necessary to set up such a company. The Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Corporation will ensure a high level of quality broadcasting during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games."

    Under rules set out by the Organizing Committee, as the host broadcaster for the 2008 games, the new company will provide international television and radio signals for broadcasters from all over the world. The company will also build and operate the International Broadcast Center and the necessary broadcast facilities in other venues. Finally, it will also provide related services for broadcasters during the games. By 2008, Beijing Olympics Broadcasting Corporation will employ about 4,000 people. Enditem
