BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhuanet) -- An "International Weather Forecast Demonstration Project" will be carried out during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, according to the Beijing Meteorological Bureau. Experts from the World Meteorological Organization, the United States and Australia have been assessing the project in Beijing, said bureau official Bo Li at a press conference here on Monday. The project would provide a one to 36-hour forecasts on temperature, humidity, wind, air quality and foul weather events once it was put into use, he said. Weather is one of the significant factors on the success of the Games. The 29th Olympic Games will be held in the Chinese capital of Beijing from August 8 to 24 in 2008, when high temperatures and mugginess, heavy rain and thunderstorms would occur frequently. The project would help forecasters understand the most advanced weather forecasting techniques in the world and improve the weather forecasting system in China, Bo said. Experts believed that during the Beijing 2008 Olympics, weather forecasters can provide better weather forecasting services on short-terms forecasts and current conditions by using the project. |
