China to improve news releases

(2005/04/16)

BEIJING, April 15 -- The Chinese government is working on the completion of a system dedicated to the release of news, in order to satisfy the public's demand for information, and make governmental affairs increasingly transparent.

Since last year, the Foreign Ministry has held two press conferences a week, while other departments of the State Council, provincial and municipal governments also arranged nearly 800 press conferences.

The Information Office of China's State Council will issue instructions to various state-owned enterprises, hospitals, schools and financial organizations, stating that they should establish systems which make use of spokesperson and can immediately release emergency news.
