(2003/09/18)

At the invitation of Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Zheng Xiaoyu, the Director General of the State Food and Drug Administration of China (SFDA) (Vice Minister level), at the head of a Chinese delegation, paid a visit to India from September 13 to 16.

On September 15, Mr. Ashwini Kumar, Drugs Controller General of Indian Ministry of Health and Public Welfare, met with Mr. Zheng Xiaoyu and his delegation. The two sides shared information on each other's systems of and experiences in drug administration, and expressed their willingness for further sharing information, deepening mutual understanding and bettering cooperation. The delegation also visited Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, a famous Indian pharmaceutical company. Briefed by the management of the company, Mr. Zhen said that it had been over ten years since the beginning of medical exchanges and cooperation between Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited and its Chinese partners. Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited had registered its own company in Guangzhou, China, namely Ranbaxy (Guangzhou China) Limited, most products of which were sold in the Chinese market. The Chinese government attached great importance to foreign companies like Ranbaxy (Guangzhou China) Limited and was ready to provide assistance to them. After China's entry into the WTO, all the foreign companies could enjoy national treatment. Mr. Zheng hoped that the Ranbaxy (Guangzhou China) Limited would expand its business in China and offer rationalization proposals for Chinese pharmaceutical administration in its cooperation with China.
