Mr. Zhang Baowen, Chinese Vice Minister of Agriculture, at the head of a Chinese delegation, paid a visit to India from August 27 to 31, during which the Chinese guests visited Indian Ministry of Agriculture, Indian National Academy of Agricultural Science, Mother Dairy Food Processing Limited, and Indian National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology.
On August 28, Mr. Raj Nath Singh, Indian Minister of Agriculture met with Mr. Zhang Baowen and his delegation. Mr. Zheng Qingdian, Chargé D'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy, was also present. In a friendly atmosphere, the two sides held wide-ranging and intensive talks on the current situation of agriculture and policies on agricultural development of the two countries, challenges and opportunities confronted by the two countries in agriculture and the potentiality of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of agriculture. The Indian side expressed its willingness to further cooperation with China and proposed to renew the Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation signed by the two countries in 1992 so as to meet the requirements of current situation and future development in bilateral agricultural cooperation. The Chinese side full agreed with the Indian proposal and proposed that working groups should be set up at an early date so as to promote bilateral cooperation. Mr. Zhang Baowen, on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, invited Mr. Raj Nath Singh to visit China at his convenience.
