Chinese Education Minister Visits India

At the invitation of the UNESCO, Mr. Zhou Ji, Chinese Education Minister attended the Third High-Level Group Meeting on Education for All held by the UN agency in New Delhi from November 10 to 12.After the meeting, Mr. Zhou Ji paid a working visit to India from November 13 to 14.During the visit, he met education officials of Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development and exchanged views with them on furthering bilateral cooperation in the field of education. He visited the Indian Engineering College, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, two secondary schools, one private school, and the NIIT.

Minister Zhou Ji termed the UNESO meeting a complete success. He said that the key to economic construction was education, and elementary education in particular. China should increase the exportation of technological products, strengthen career education and improve the quality of workers.

As for his impression of bilateral visits, he pointed out that China and India should increase mutual visits of scientists and technicians and China should send more software experts to India for study so as to promote the development of Chinese software technology.
