What is China's comment on current India-Pakistan relationship? India and Pakistan are important neighbors of China. Chinese government attaches importance to bilateral relationships with the two countries. In recent years, China continuously developed friendly cooperation with both countries. We express our satisfaction with China-India and China-Pakistan relationships. At the same time, we have noticed the continuous improvement and development of India-Pakistan relationship. We expect that this momentum will move on and contribute to resolution of certain issues between the two countries. Before long, President Bush visited India and the two sides signed an agreement of civil nuclear cooperation. What is your comment on it? China in principle welcomes development of normal bilateral relationship between India and the United States. We hope that the peaceful cooperation of nuclear energy by relevant countries can contribute to enhancing the authority and effectiveness of the international non-proliferation regime and also conform to the regulations of the international non-proliferation regime and their own international obligations. The peace talks between Sri Lanka Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) were resumed recently. Does China have any comment? We welcome the resumption of peace talks between Sri Lanka Government and the LTTE. We expect the peace talk process can constantly achieve progress and finally realize national reconciliation. The Taliban regime was overturned 4 years ago. Now, what is China's comment on the situation and reconstruction of Afghanistan? A peaceful, stable and economically developing Afghanistan not only serves the interests of its people, but also contributes to regional as well as world peace and development. China gives a positive evaluation to peace process and economic reconstruction of Afghanistan. Afghanistan suffered war turmoil for years. Its peace process and economic reconstruction have a long way to go. The international society should continue to render support and help. China supports peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan and has provided assistance with our ability. China is willing to work with the international community to contribute to stability and development of Afghanistan. Since King Gyanendra reigned from February 2005, international community has kept watching on the situation of Nepal. What is China's comment? We always maintain that it should be respected that people of various countries have right to decide development direction and mode on their own. Nepal is a traditional friendly neighboring country of China. China supports independent sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal, and hopes the domestic situation can stabilize as soon as possible and Nepal can achieve national peace, stability and prosperity. What is China's position on the reform of UN Security Council and G3 proposal? If without Japan, will China support India or G3 to be permanent members of UNSC? China has a clear-cut and consistent position on the reform of UN Security Council. We support the UNSC enhancing authorities and efficiency through reform, and believe the reform should first take into consideration of the representation of developing countries, allow as many medium and small countries as possible more chances to participate in UNSC decision-making. The reform should properly take into consideration of concerns and interests of all sides concerned, and seek solution acceptable to all countries on the basis of full consultation. China understands the aspiration of India to play a bigger role in international community and hopes that countries concerned could start from the entire and long-term interests of the majority of UN members, in spirit of the UN Charter, push for a consensus through wide-ranging and democratic consultation. What is China's position on the proposal that the next UN secretary-general should come from Asia? As the chief executive official of UN, Secretary-General is an important and special position in international affairs. Asian countries have not held this position for 34 years. We support an Asian candidate to assume the office. We hope that Asian countries can enhance mutual understanding so as to assure the next Secretary-General comes from Asia. As a permanent member of UNSC and an influential Asian country, what role can China play and what strategy will China take to push for the resolution of Iran nuclear issue? The Iranian nuclear issue is a very complicated matter. China hopes the relevant parties make every effort to solve this issue through diplomatic negotiation. China will continue to play a constructive role in reaching a final resolution. What is China's comment on current political situation in Iraq? Stability is yet to be restored completely in Iraq, where we still witness difficulties here and there in the process of its political and economic reconstruction. We express our concern over it. We hope that politically, Iraq can be a country governed by its own people. The Iraqi people based on the choice of their own should determine the future of Iraq. On security, comprehensive measures should be adopted, including speeding up reconstruction of Iraqi troops and police. Meanwhile, some concrete steps need to be taken to address those deep-rooted security issues. Economically, Iraq's own "blood-forming capacity" should be restored as soon as possible, so as to give full play to its sufficient natural and human resources. Above all, we hope Iraq can restore stability, make greater progress in political and economic reconstruction to ensure a secure, prosperous and happy life for its people at an early date.
