Ambassador Sun Yuxi Briefs Indian Media on Achievements of Premier Wen's Visit to India

On the afternoon of April 19, the India-China Journalists Friendship Association held a press conference at the Constitution Club in Delhi, inviting Chinese Ambassador to India Mr. Sun Yuxi to brief the Indian media on the achievements of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India. Reporters from 30 Indian media including PTI, the Pioneer, the Times of India were present at the press conference.

Ambassador Sun pointed out that Premier Wen's visit to India attracted attentions from all walks of life in India and the world at large. The visit was a great success and made lots of achievements. During his visit, Premier Wen made cordial and in-depth exchanges of views with Indian leaders on the issues of mutual concern. On the political perspective, the two countries announced the establishment of a Strategic and Cooperative Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, upgrading the bilateral relations. On the boundary issue, the two sides signed the Agreement on the Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the Settlement of the China-India boundary question, laying a good foundation for fairly and reasonably settling the boundary issue via peace talks. On the economic and trade relations, the two governments have endorsed a five-year plan for Sino-Indian trade and economic development and will take feasible efforts to improve the trade volume between the two countries. On the cultural and personnel exchanges, the two countries plan to hold "Friendship Year" and "Chinese Culture Month". Chinese Premier Wen and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the Chinese Culture Month by attending the cultural performance held in the Siri Fort auditorium. The Chinese side also held other activities such as a photo exhibition and film festival in New Delhi. Moreover, the Chinese side will set up a Confucian College in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Indian side will also construct a Buddhist temple in the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, China. There will also be a friendship exchange between the youths of the two countries.

Ambassador Sun Yuxi then answered questions raised by the Indian reporters on the prospect of Sino-Indian economic and trade relations, Sino-Indian boundary issue and border trade, Sino-Pakistan relations and the UN reform, etc.
